It is always fun to get a new puppy but it will be easier if you have a few of the possessions that you need on hand before he comes to your house. You will want to begin training him right away to be a good puppy resident and a valued member of your family. It is easier if you have the equipment that you need on hand.
There is an abundance of things that you can get for your new puppy. Some of these things are advantageous and helpful to have and others are not really essential.
One of the most valuable things that you will need when you get a new puppy is a crate. Dogs like to have a hideout that is their own space. Your training will go better if you use a crate. Make sure that you get one that is the right dimension for your puppy. You may want to have two in case you want one for the automobile.
You will also want a collar and a leash. Get at least one collar that fits well and then you can get special training collars later. One six-foot leash that feels nice in your hand is also indispensable.
Plan what your puppy will eat and get some food and water dishes. Stainless steel is ordinarily best. Try to find out what variety of foodstuff your puppy has been used to eating and get enough of that for at least a few weeks. All food changes should be made gradually.
In order to be equipped to start your training at once you will need to have some soft treats to reward your puppy and also some type of aversive. An aversive will discourage your dog from unruly activities as it is something that is absolutely harmless but your dog doesn’t like it and will do everything he can to stay away from it. A clicker that makes a noise or a squirt bottle that squirts water are examples of dissimilar types of an aversive.
Puppies also need to chew, so you will want to get some chewing items and some toys. You may want to just start with one or two until you notice what your puppy really likes. After your puppy settles in you will soon know what things work best for his personality.
